Why tempo changes the result at the borderline
Swing speed tells you how fast the clubhead is moving at impact. What it does not tell you is how aggressively your transition loads the shaft during the downswing. A golfer who starts the downswing slowly and builds speed gradually — smooth, rhythmic tempo — applies a long, moderate load to the shaft. A golfer who fires hard from the top — quick, aggressive transition — creates a sharper, more abrupt load that over-bends a softer shaft and produces inconsistent delivery.
- Smooth tempo at 90 mph: the shaft sees a moderate load. Regular often fits well; Stiff may feel dead.
